Kevin Anderson scored 21 points to lead Richmond to its sixth win in seven games with a 72-60 victory over Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday night.

The Spiders (8-2) shot 17 for 32 from the field (53.1 percent) in the opening half and led 40-17 at the break. VCU was 6 for 23 from the floor (26.1 percent) in the first and didn't record its first field goal until the 11:15 mark on a layup from Bradford Burgess.

Richmond led 49-19 after a dunk from Frances Martel with 17:37 remaining in the game, but the Rams (6-3) outscored the Spiders 41-23 the rest of the way.

VCU shot 18 for 32 from the floor (56.3 percent) in the second half to narrow the gap, but a 10-for-17 shooting effort (58.8 percent) from the Spiders after halftime kept them in front for good.

Jamie Skeen scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Ed Nixon added 13 points and Burgess had 10 for VCU.
