Retired tennis star Li Na gives birth to daughter

Retired tennis star Li Na and her husband, Dennis, are celebrating the arrival of their first child.

Li gave birth to a girl named Alisa early Wednesday morning. IMG Tennis posted a picture of the family to its Twitter account.

Li is one of China's best known athletes and became the first Asian tennis player to win a Grand Slam tournament when she captured the French Open in 2011. She also won the Australian Open last year, and returned to Melbourne Park in January to announce her pregnancy.

She retired from professional tennis last September, citing recurring knee injuries.
