Published February 05, 2015

Sports Network

(SportsNetwork.com) - 2012 NFL Most Valuable Player Adrian Peterson has been indicted in his native Texas for reckless or negligent injury to a child, a Houston television station first reported on Friday.

According to Fox 26 in Houston, the Minnesota Vikings star running back has been summoned by a grand jury in Montgomery County on the charges, which NFL.com reported involved the disciplining of one of his sons.

Neither Peterson nor his attorney, Rusty Hardin, have publicly commented on the case.

The Vikings issued a statement following the news of Peterson's indictment.

"The Vikings are in the process of gathering information regarding the legal situation involving Adrian Peterson. At this time, we will defer further questions to Adrian's attorney Rusty Hardin," the statement read.

Minnesota will host the New England Patriots Sunday in the Vikings' 2014 home opener.
