Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson was cited for driving left of center Sunday morning after a car accident that left former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone in a Charlotte hospital.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, via Black and Blue Review, the accident occurred when Thompson crossed the center line. Both drivers tried to swerve, and their cards collided.

Police told Black and Blue Review that alcohol was involved but was not a factor in the crash.

"Shaq informed us he was involved in a traffic accident and we are in the process of gathering more information," Panthers spokesman Ryan Anderson said.

Boone, who played at Duke from 2011-14 and started for the Blue Devils in his final two seasons there, reportedly has serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Thompson was the 25th overall pick in the 2015 draft and played in 14 games, starting 10, for the Panthers team that went to the Super Bowl. He also played in all three of Carolina's postseason games.
