One way or another, Philip Rivers' contract situation will become a little clearer.
According to U-T San Diego, the team and quarterback have set a de-facto deal deadline for Aug. 13. That's the night the Chargers play their preseason opener and, potentially, the last day to ink Rivers long-term this year.
If no agreement is reached, Rivers will reportedly cut off talks until the season concludes. The Chargers can choose to offer him a long-term deal or extend the franchise tag at that point.
The paper reports negotiations are "amicable" between both sides. And as evidenced by the flurry of deals for franchise players a few weeks ago, sometimes deadlines spur action.
