Redskins RB Hightower out with torn ACL

Washington Redskins running back Tim Hightower suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

'Skins head coach Mike Shanahan made the announcement at his Monday afternoon press conference, but said the club has not decided to place Hightower on injured reserve or to make any other roster adjustments.

Hightower suffered the injury in Washington's 33-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The fourth-year back totaled 88 yards on 17 carries in the setback, and racked up 321 yards and one touchdown on 84 attempts in five games this year.

Shanahan also revealed that wide receiver Santana Moss underwent surgery on Monday to repair a broken finger on his left hand, and is expected to miss 5- to-7 weeks.

The Miami-Florida product notched a pair of receptions for 17 yards, upping his season totals to 25 catches for 301 yards and a pair of scores.

In addition, linebacker London Fletcher was felled with a hamstring pull.

"I don't think I've ever lost so many (players) on one side so quickly," said Shanahan.
