The Washington Redskins placed tight end Fred Davis on injured reserve and re-signed tight end Chris Cooley Monday.

Davis tore his left Achilles tendon in the first quarter of Sunday's 27-23 loss to the New York Giants as he was running a route in the end zone. It was announced after the game he would miss the remainder of the season.

The fifth-year pro was the Redskins' leading receiver this year with 325 yards on 24 receptions.

Cooley, who holds Washington's all-time record for receptions by a tight end, was released by the team prior to the start of the this season after spending his entire eight-year career with the club.

He was limited to just eight catches for 65 yards through five games last season because of knee and finger injuries.

The 30-year-old Utah State product was a two-time Pro Bowl selection during his tenure in Washington, recording 428 catches for 4,703 yards and 33 touchdowns over 108 games.

"I am very excited to be a part of this team," Cooley said about the 3-4 Redskins. "It's been unreal to watch them come together as an offense and it's going to be fun."
