Redskins let Griffin to break silence; quarterback says he won't rush his return from injury

The Washington Redskins have allowed Robert Griffin III to break his silence about his injury.

Griffin spoke for 1 minute, 17 seconds near his locker Friday, the first time he has addressed his playing status since he dislocated his left ankle in Week 2.

Griffin referenced a Winton Churchill quote about courage, said he's been "listening, learning, growing as a player" and that he's "not going to rush" his return.

Coach Jay Gruden hasn't ruled out Griffin for Monday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys, but the coach said the plan remains for Colt McCoy to start.

Griffin did not take questions. His appearance was scheduled after reporters suggested to the team that Griffin's unavailability to the media was a possible violation of NFL access rules.
