The 69-year-old Bugel served two stints as a Redskins assistant, from 1981-89 and from 2004-09.

As an offensive line coach during the 1980s, Bugel was credited with assembling the "Hogs" a group that led the Redskins to three Super Bowl wins.

The "Hogs," featuring Russ Grimm, Mark May, Joe Jacoby, Mark May, Jeff Bostic, George Starke and others, helped put the spotlight on offensive linemen, a group that had traditionally been largely anonymous to NFL fans.

Bugel coached Phoenix for four seasons and Oakland for one, compiling a 24-56 record.
