Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Ortiz, who has been on the disabled list since mid-July with an injured right Achilles, completed a series of running tests on Thursday without issue.

In 89 games prior to the DL stint, Ortiz batted .316 with 23 homers and 58 RBI.

To make room for Ortiz, Boston optioned pitcher Junichi Tazawa to Triple-A Pawtucket. Tazawa has a 1.37 earned run average with one save in 20 relief appearances this season.
