Red Bulls acquire Akpan from Rapids

The New York Red Bulls have added depth at the forward position after the club acquired Andre Akpan from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a conditional 2015 MLS Draft pick.

Akpan was selected by the Rapids in the second round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and has gone on to score four times in 29 games for Colorado.

"Andre is a strong, physical forward with MLS experience and will provide another attacking option for our coaching staff," said Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh. "We are pleased to sign him and look forward to his contributions in the coming season."

The 25-year-old Akpan is coming off his best campaign in MLS having totaled three goals in 15 games last term for the Rapids.
