Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain will start the 2013 season on the physically unable to perform list as he continues a slow recovery from a spinal cord contusion.
McClain was hurt during a Week 14 game against Washington last season and has not yet been cleared for contact. He will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season.
The 28-year-old Syracuse product had started 45 consecutive games for the Ravens and had never missed a game after joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2008.
McClain had 79 tackles in 13 games last season.
The Ravens also placed rookie defensive lineman Kapron Lewis-Moore on the reserve/non-football injury list to reach the NFL-mandated roster limit of 75.
