Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska was a first-round winner on Tuesday in the season-opening ASB Classic tennis event.

Poland's Radwanska easily slipped past Greta Arn of Hungary 6-2, 6-2 on the hardcourts at ASB Tennis Centre. Arn was the champ here in 2011.

The final match of the night saw second-seeded German Julia Goerges post a 6-3, 6-4 victory over qualifier Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.

Sixth-seeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan took down Spain's Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino 6-3, 6-2, but fifth-seeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea retired after one set to Great Britain's Heather Watson.

Germany's Mona Barthel, the eighth seed, had no problems with American Grace Min 6-1, 6-3.

Other winners on Tuesday included New Zealand's Marina Erakovic and Switzerland's Romina Oprandi.

This event serves as a tune-up for the Australian Open, which starts January 14.
