Sixth seed Sam Querrey was a come-from- behind winner on Day 1 at the $545,000 Moselle Open tennis event.

The 6-foot-6 American overcame 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, on the indoor hardcourts at Parc des Expositions. The big-hitting match featured 37 aces, including 25 from the massive-serving Karlovic.

This week's top seeds are France's owns Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon. Tsonga is the two-time reigning champion, having beaten this week's third seed, Italian Andreas Seppi, in last year's finale. Simon titled here in 2010.

A Frenchman has captured the last four titles at this ATP World Tour 250 tournament.

The 2013 Metz champion will collect $98,000.
