Prosecutor: Texas Tech LB Cobb agreed to protective order for felony burglary case dismissal

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A Lubbock County prosecutor says part of the reason a felony burglary case against Texas Tech linebacker Daniel Cobb was dropped is because he agreed to a protective order.

Prosecutor Sunshine Stanek said Tuesday the alleged victim requested the order and Cobb agreed to it. She declined to detail other reasons the case was dropped.

On Monday, Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said Cobb committed "no wrongdoing whatsoever" stemming from his Aug. 19 arrest. Athletic department spokesman Blayne Beal said "we stand by everything we said yesterday."

Cobb was expected to play against TCU on Saturday.

A police report showed that an officer responding to the apartment found evidence of forced entry and Cobb assaulting the occupant.

Cobb had 70 tackles in seven starts last season, third best on the team.
