Pitcher Moyer notches 100th victory since turning 40

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Evergreen Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer tossed a complete game 6-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday to record his 100th victory since turning 40.

The 47-year-old becomes just the third pitcher in Major League history to record a century of wins after entering his fifth decade, joining Jack Quinn (103) and Phil Niekro (121) in a select group of ironmen.

After allowing two runs on five hits in the second inning, Moyer found his rhythm and range in giving up just two more hits through the remaining seven innings.

"An achievement here is a win tomorrow," Moyer told reporters, opting to focus on the team as opposed to his accomplishment. "I think the personal things... there's another time and another place for that."

"They hit some sinkers into the ground, they popped some balls up later in the game. It seemed like the ball was carrying quite well, so I managed to keep the ball on the ground."
