Pirates release P Cruz

The Pittsburgh Pirates released pitcher Juan Cruz on Thursday.

The 33-year-old right-hander was released after he cleared waivers and refused his assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cruz was 1-1 with a 2.78 earned run average in 43 relief appearances for the Pirates this season.

Over 447 career games, including 38 starts, with the Cubs, Braves, Athletics, Diamondbacks, Royals, Rays and Pirates, Cruz has a 38-36 record with a 4.05 ERA.
