Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced several roster moves on Monday, including the selection of outfielder Jose Tabata's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Tabata last appeared in the majors on June 22, then was sent outright to Indy two days later. Prior to the demotion, the 26-year-old native of Venezuela hit .289 with four doubles and 14 RBI over 62 games.

Tabata batted .281 with 12 runs batted in over 39 games for the Pirates' Triple-A club.

To make room for Tabata, the Bucs optioned rookie outfielder Gregory Polanco to Indianapolis. Pittsburgh also reinstated infielder Clint Barmes from the 15-day disabled list and designated infielder Jayson Nix for assignment.

Polanco, rated one of the game's top prospects, had six homers, 30 RBI and 12 steals along with a .241 average in 64 games after being promoted to the majors on June 10.

Barmes hasn't seen action since June 29 and was placed on the DL July 6 due to a left groin strain. In his third season with the franchise, Barmes batted .239 over 42 appearances before getting hurt.

After being signed by the Pirates on Aug. 3, Nix saw action in 16 games, hitting .111 (4-for-36).
