Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda came off his suspension for doctoring a baseball and was promptly placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.

Pineda was suspended for 10 games April 24 after being caught using pine tar to get a better grip on the baseball a day earlier against the Boston Red Sox.

During his time off, Pineda suffered a strained muscle in his shoulder while throwing a side session.

It is unclear how long he will be out with the injury.

The right-hander is 2-2 with a 1.83 ERA in four starts this season.

The Yankees also activated infielder Brendan Ryan off the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Ryan was limited to just four games and eight at-bats this spring by a pinched nerve in his upper back and began the season in extended spring training.

The 32-year-old hit just .197 with four home runs and 22 RBI over a combined 104 games with the Yankees and Seattle last season.
