Andrew Pierce rushed for two touchdowns and caught another as Delaware defeated Rhode Island 47-24 Saturday, handing the Rams their 7th straight loss.

After Jeff Williams' sack of Rhode Island's Bob Bentsen in the end zone gave the Blue Hens (5-2, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association) a 12-7 lead, Pierce ran one in from 6 yards out to push the lead to 19-7. Williams finished with four tackles for loss.

Pierce then caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tim Donnelly to put Delaware ahead for good, 26-7.

Donnelly completed 19-of-27 passes for 191 yards while Pierce finished with 141 yards on 18 carries.

Bentsen paced Rhode Island (0-7, 0-4) with 167 passing yards but was sacked three times.

The Rams posted 271 yards of offense, compared to 471 for Delaware, and only converted 3-of-12 third-down attempts.

Delaware snapped a two-game losing streak after starting the season with four straight wins.
