Steven Pienaar returned to Everton from Tottenham on Tuesday for $5.5 million and signed a four-year contract.

Pienaar, 30, first joined Everton on loan from Borussia Dortmund in 2007, and made a permanent switch in 2008. He remained with Everton until 2011, when he joined Tottenham.

He was loaned back to Everton last season, and has completed a permanent move back to the club. Pienaar started just five Premier League matches for Spurs, but had four goals in 14 league matches while on loan at Everton last season.

"I am happy to be here. It took a few weeks to sort out but I am delighted to be back and excited to play for Everton," Pienaar said.

"There was no doubt in my mind that I would be back here. At the end of the season I told the manager how I felt and I am happy now it is all done."

Capped 57 times for South Africa, the midfielder has scored twice for his country.
