Phillies rookie Franco calls himself 'lucky' to avoid broken wrist

Philadelphia Phillies rookie third baseman Maikel Franco considers himself "lucky" to avoid a broken wrist after being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game.

Franco was plunked on the left wrist by Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Jeremy Hellickson in his first at-bat. He was diagnosed with a contusion after X-rays came back negative.

"It's still pretty sore," Franco told reporters after the game. "When it hit me, I was worried something bad happened. I was scared. I thought it might be broken. I'm lucky."

Franco, who is batting .277 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI, was unsure when he could return to the lineup. The Phillies play an afternoon game in Arizona on Wednesday and have a day off before opening a three-game series at Milwaukee on Friday.
