Phillies make it official with Adams

The Philadelphia Phillies and pitcher Mike Adams finalized a two-year, $12 million contract on Thursday.

The deal includes a vesting/club option for 2015.

Adams was 5-3 with a 3.27 earned run average in 61 appearances for the Texas Rangers last season. He underwent surgery in October to correct thoracic outlet syndrome, which is caused by a rib pushing down on a nerve and results in a numbing sensation.

The 34-year-old right-hander will set up for closer Jonathan Papelbon, giving the club a formidable late-inning combination.

Since 2008, Adams has posted a 1.98 ERA while tossing 295 innings for San Diego and Texas.
