Person familiar with situation to AP: Clemson junior McDaniels leaving for NBA draft

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

A person familiar with the situation says Clemson junior K.J. McDaniels is leaving school for the NBA draft.

The person spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither McDaniels nor Clemson has announced the decision. McDaniels is expected to declare his intentions this week.

In several NBA mock drafts, the 6-foot-6 forward is projected as a middle-to-late selection in the first round.

McDaniels led Clemson with 17.1 points and seven rebounds a game. He also had 100 blocks in helping the Tigers finish 23-13. He was the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

McDaniels became the Tigers' breakout star this season, earning the nickname "Flight32" for his high-flying dunks and blocks.
