Person familiar with decision: Indians pick Francona as manager, work toward contract

Published November 20, 2014

A person familiar with the decision says the Cleveland Indians have chosen Terry Francona to be their next manager and are working with him on a contract.

Francona, who led Boston to two World Series titles, was offered the job on Saturday, a person with knowledge of the team's search told the Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the sides have not yet reached agreement on a deal.

Francona interviewed on Friday, one day after the club met with interim manager Sandy Alomar Jr. Francona previously worked as an adviser in Cleveland's front office.

FOXsports.com was the first to report Francona will take the Indians' job.

Francona said there was a "family feeling" when he met with the Indians. His father, Tito, played for Cleveland from 1959-64.
