Patriots release CB Arrington

Foxborough, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New England Patriots released cornerback Kyle Arrington on Monday.

Arrington spent the last six seasons with the Patriots after joining the club as a practice squad player.

In the 2011 season, Arrington tied Charles Woodson and Eric Weddle for the NFL lead in interceptions with seven. He scored touchdowns on a fumble recovery and a blocked field goal last season.

Arrington started 56 of the 86 games in which he played for New England.

The Patriots also signed tight end Fred Davis and offensive lineman Kevin Hughes.

Davis joined the Patriots four days after being reinstated by the NFL from an indefinite suspension for a second violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

He played in 72 games with the Washington Redskins from 2008-13, catching 162 passes for 2,043 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was selected by the Redskins in the second round of the 2008 draft.
