Foxboro, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - New England quarterback Tom Brady's most reliable target from last season is officially staying put.

The Patriots announced on Tuesday they have re-signed wide receiver Julian Edelman.

The official word came three days after Edelman said on Twitter that he'd be back in a Patriots uniform.

Edelman, 27, was an unrestricted free agent. His deal is for four years and $17 million plus incentives, according to the Boston Globe.

He had a breakthrough 2013 season, catching 105 passes for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns and returning 35 punts for 374 yards -- all career highs.

Edelman appeared in both playoff games with one start in the AFC Championship Game and led the team with 16 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown.

In his four previous regular seasons for the Patriots, he never had more than 37 catches.
