East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is active for the first time this season.

Gronkowski was cleared by doctors this week after numerous surgeries on his back and forearm and did not appear on New England's inactive list for Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

The two-time Pro Bowler has been practicing with the team and it was thought he might play last week against New Orleans, but medical clearance was not given.

Gronkowski, 24, twice fractured his forearm last season and played only 11 games.

Wide receiver Danny Amendola (concussion, groin), cornerback Aqib Talib (hip), defensive lineman Tommy Kelly (knee) and running back Leon Washington (ankle) are among the inactives for the Patriots.
