O's Davis headed to DL

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Baltimore Orioles are expected to place first baseman Chris Davis on the 15-day disabled list due to a left oblique strain.

The Orioles were hopeful that Davis could avoid landing on the DL, but MRI results revealed that the strain was more serious than originally thought.

"It's kind of crazy because I don't feel terrible. I've never had anything like this before, " said Davis. "Hopefully, it will be just a few days and we will forget about it."

Davis, who led the majors with 53 home runs last season, left Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals before the fifth inning with the injury. He grimaced while swinging in the third inning, but remained in the game before leaving between the fourth and fifth frames.

Manager Buck Showalter said that the team could wait until after Sunday's series finale to add another player to the roster. Nick Markakis filled in for Davis at first base and provided the game-winning hit on Saturday to send the Orioles to a 3-2 win over the Royals in 10 innings.

In 22 games this season, Davis has hit for a .250 average with two home runs, 13 RBI, and 14 runs scored.
