Orioles bring up OF McLouth, designate Chavez

The Baltimore Orioles selected the contract of outfielder Nate McLouth from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.

McLouth batted .244 with five doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 33 RBI in 47 games for Norfolk after beginning the season with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He hit just .140 with two RBI in 34 games with Pittsburgh before being released by the club.

McLouth, 30, broke into the majors with the Bucs in 2005 and was named a National League All Star and a Gold Glove winner in 2008. He led the NL with 46 doubles that season.

In 765 major league contests over eight seasons, McLouth is a .246 hitter with 81 home runs and 272 RBI.

To make room for McLouth on the roster, the O's designated outfielder Endy Chavez for assignment.
