Olympics 2010: American Hannah Kearney Wins Gold

Canadian Jenn Heil had the home-turf advantage, but when 23-year-old Vermonter Hannah Kearney blazed down the icy, slushy bumps, nailing both airs, it was clear that the U.S. would rule the podium.

Four years ago, at the Torino qualifying rounds, Kearney watched Heil stand in that top spot from the stands, in 22nd place.

"I felt like I let down my country, I let down myself, my friends," she said in a recent story in the Huffington Post. "I was embarrassed by my performance. I knew I had more in me."

Her performance at Cypress Mountain certainly proved her right.

Meanwhile, her teammate Shannon Bahrke won the bronze.
