Oklahoma coach Stoops' rivalry with SEC continues as Sooners prepare for Tennessee

Published February 05, 2015

Associated Press

It's Bob Stoops vs. the SEC, once again.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma hosts Tennessee on Saturday, the first time the Sooners will play a Southeastern Conference team since stunning SEC power Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Stoops has been criticizing the SEC since the spring of 2013, when he called some of the stories about the league's supremacy "propaganda." The Sooners had lost three straight against the conference, but Stoops got some ammunition with the Sugar Bowl win.

This summer, Stoops took exception to Alabama coach Nick Saban's comment that the Sugar Bowl was a consolation game. He didn't get into it much on Monday, saying he respects Tennessee. Oklahoma linebacker Geneo Grissom said the players know how Stoops feels about the SEC, and the Sooners want to make a statement Saturday.
