Offense shines as Diamondbacks top Phils

Jason Kubel, Justin Upton and Cody Ransom each drove in two runs, as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 9-5, in the opener of a three-game series at Chase Field.

The game was supposed to feature a pitching matchup between Arizona's Daniel Hudson and Philadelphia left-hander Cliff Lee. However, both starters were placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday. Hudson has a right shoulder impingement and Lee a strained left oblique.

Wade Miley (2-0) took Hudson's place, while Kyle Kendrick (0-1) started for the Phillies.

Miley gave up two doubles, walked one and struck out a career-high seven batters over six scoreless innings.

Conversely, Kendrick was tagged for seven runs and 11 hits in three-plus frames.
