No. 24 Michigan State without starting DT Tyler Hoover, misses Michigan game with calf injury

Michigan State was without starting defensive tackle Tyler Hoover against Michigan.

Hoover was not cleared to play because of a calf injury Saturday for the 24th-ranked Spartans against the 23rd-ranked Wolverines. The ailment also led to him missing last week's win at Illinois.

The sixth-year senior has 3½ sacks in seven games this season. He was granted a sixth year of eligibility because he missed most of the 2011 season with broken ribs. Hoover has started 19 of 44 games in his college career that started in 2008.
