NNS: RCR, Turner Teams Avoid Major Penalties

Nationwide Series point leader Elliott Sadler and his team dodged a big bullet Tuesday.

NASCAR Tuesday announced penalties associated with rules violations discovered last weekend at Richmond International Raceway, and Sadler’s Richard Childress Racing team avoided the toughest penalty – the subtraction of points.

NASCAR fined six Nationwide crew chiefs and also placed them on probation for the violations, which involved modified bumper pieces on six cars entered by RCR and Turner Motorsports. The teams’ car chiefs also were placed on probation.

The penalized crew chiefs are Luke Lambert (Sadler’s team), Danny Stockman (Austin Dillon), Trent Owens (Turner Motorsports), Jimmy Elledge (Turner Motorsports), Ernie Cope (Richard Childress Racing) and Mike Shiplett (Turner Motorsports). Each was fined $10,000.

None of the teams was penalized points, however, and there were no suspensions. The probations are scheduled to last through the end of the season.

Sadler’s RCR team leads the point standings entering this weekend’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.
