NHL commissioner indicates Winnipeg must sellout MTS Centre for success

WINNIPEG - The harsh financial reality of today's NHL was front and centre as Winnipeg opened its arms to the league once again.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman made it clear that the franchise must sell out the 15,015-seat MTS Centre to stay afloat.

"It isn't going to work very well unless this building is sold out every night," said Bettman.

True North Sports & Entertainment says tickets for the team will range between $39 and $129.

The new owners are hoping to attract commitments for 13,000 season tickets before the NHL's board of governors votes on the transfer of ownership on June 21.

Winnipeg is re-entering the NHL at a time when the salary cap is expected to climb to US$62 million for next season.

The minimum amount a team can spend, known as the salary floor, will be about $42 million.
