NFLRA executive director Quirk retires, Green steps in

Jim Quirk, the executive director of the National Football League Referees Association since April 2013, is retiring.

The NFLRA says Wednesday that Scott Green, a past president of the union and a retired NFL referee, will replace Quirk.

Quirk, 76, has been associated with the NFL and the union since 1988, serving as an umpire in the league for 21 years. He worked one Super Bowl.

''I am very happy that Scott will succeed me,'' Quirk says. ''I've been blessed to have had the opportunity to serve the NFLRA membership for over 12 years.''

Green, 65, joined the NFL officiating ranks in 1991 as a field judge, then moved to back judge before becoming a referee in 2005. When he retired after the 2013 season, Green's officiating career included three Super Bowls.
