Newman up by 1 in Vancouver

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jack Newman fired a course-record 11-under 61 on Saturday and vaulted into the lead at the inaugural PC Financial Open.

Newman, who is making his first PGA Tour Canada start, finished three rounds at 14-under-par 202 at Point Grey Golf and Country Club.

Brad Clapp shot 5-under 67 and stands alone in second place at minus-13. Joel Dahmen (68) and second-round leader Eugene Wong (71) are tied for third place at 12-under 204.

Olin Browne, Jr. (66) and John Catlin (71) share fifth place at minus-11, while Chris Parra (70) and Kelvin Day (72) are one stroke further back at 10- under 206.

Newman had two big bursts that accounted for most of his scoring. After starting with a pair of pars, he poured in six consecutive birdie tries to jump to minus-9.

After three straight pars, Newman drained four birdies in a row from the 12th to move to minus-13. He finished his round with a birdie on the par-5 closing hole.

NOTES: Newman won the 2008 U.S. Amateur Public Links title. His previous best competitive score was a 64 on the eGolf Tour .. The second-best score on Saturday was 66 carded by Browne and Garrett Sapp.
