Nets' Williams headed for ankle surgeries

Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams is scheduled to undergo surgery on both of his troublesome ankles, the team announced Thursday in a statement.

Williams will have the procedures performed on Tuesday by Dr. Martin O'Malley, the Nets' foot and ankle specialist, and is expected to be fully recovered in time for next season's training camp.

The three-time All-Star was plagued by ankle problems throughout the 2013-14 campaign, with the injuries limiting him to 64 regular-season games. Williams' averages of 14.3 points and 6.1 assists per game were his lowest since his rookie year of 2005-06.

Williams will have a bone chip taken out of his right ankle, with his left ankle slated for a cleanout that will involve the removal of bone spurs.

The 29-year-old just completed the second season of a five-year, $98 million contract he signed with the Nets in July of 2012.
