Nadal will return in December exhibition

Published November 20, 2014

Rafael Nadal will play his first tennis since June at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi in late December.

The current world No. 4 and former top-ranked star hasn't played since suffering a shocking defeat at the hands of unheralded Czech Lukas Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon this past summer. The Spanish great has been sidelined with a partial tear of the patella tendon in his left knee.

The 2012 French Open titlist and 11-time Grand Slam singles champion was unable to defend his Olympic title in London and also missed the U.S. Open.

The field in Abu Dhabi will also feature former No. 1 and reigning Australian Open champ Novak Djokovic and reigning U.S. Open and Olympic titlist Andy Murray. The three-day Mubadala World Tennis Championship will commence December 27.
