Shenzhen, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Two-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray was an easy second-round winner, while top-seeded David Ferrer suffered an upset Thursday at the inaugural Shenzhen Open tennis event.
One-time world No. 12 Viktor Troicki of Serbia sent the Spaniard and former French Open runner-up Ferrer packing in 6-3, 6-4 fashion on the hardcourts at Shenzhen Longgang Tennis Center.
The 174th-ranked Troicki fired 13 aces in a 66-minute victory, his first over Ferrer in four tries.
"I don't want to stop here," said Troicki. "I think I'm playing good. I'll go match by match and try to enjoy it as much as I can."
Meanwhile, the second-seeded British star Murray, still seeking his first title since winning the championship at Wimbledon last year, cruised past Indian Somdev Devvarman 6-3, 6-3 on Day 4 in Shenzhen.
Murray's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be Slovak Lukas Lacko.
Two other second-round matches saw sixth-seeded Colombian Santiago Giraldo handle Aussie qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis 6-4, 6-3 and Lacko top Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
The other quarterfinals will pit third-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet against Argentine Juan Monaco, fourth-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo versus eighth-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi and Giraldo against the qualifier Troicki, who recently returned to the ATP Tour following a doping suspension.
The first-ever Shenzhen titlist will earn $106,970.
