A 23-year-old motorcycle racer has been killed in a crash during a dirt track competition in Michigan.

The crash happened Saturday night at an American Motorcyclist Association-sanctioned race at the Midland County Fairgrounds.

Fairgrounds Manager Trish Steele said Monday that the Polka Dots Motorcycle Club rented the site and was responsible for safety at the event, referring a request for information to the club.

Club spokesman Duane Stanick identifies the dead racer as 23-year-old Benjamin Myers of Midland.

Stanick says the crash happened about half way through the last event of the night, a 10-lap race on a half-mile oval horse track. He says three racers collided, "two people walked away and one didn't."

Stanick says Myers "was a professional racer, and he'd been racing for years."
