Quebec City, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Kristina Mladenovic was an upset victim during Wednesday's play at the Coupe Banque Nationale women's tennis event.

The third-seeded Mladenovic couldn't hold an early lead as Sesil Karatantcheva rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory on the indoor surface at PEPS.

No. 4 seed Shelby Rogers did survive a test in her second-round bout with fellow American Asia Muhammad, as the 21-year-old South Carolina native prevailed in the last of three tiebreaks to earn a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-5) decision in just under three hours.

Fifth-seed Julia Georges had a far easier time on Wednesday, needing just over an hour to dispose of American Melanie Oudin 6-2, 6-2 and advance to the quarterfinals.

Another second-round match saw German Tatjana Maria fight back to ground American Madison Brengle 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. Maria will face Rogers in Friday's quarterfinals.

The opening round concluded when Czech Andrea Hlavackova pasted Pole Paula Kania 6-3, 6-0 on Wednesday.

The 2014 champion here will earn $43,000.
