The Mississippi State and Pascagoula High School football teams are mourning after a crash that killed a current Mississippi State player and his father, a former Bulldogs linebacker.

Keith Joseph Jr. and Sr. were driving in a pickup Friday afternoon, heading to a game at the high school where both played.

The 18-year-old Joseph Jr. was redshirting this season as a freshman defensive lineman. His 44-year-old father played for Mississippi State from 1989 to 1992 and is 10th in school history in sacks.

Pascagoula football coach Lewis Sims says his players learned of the deaths Friday night after their game. He says the Josephs had been a presence around the team, calling them ''phenomenal people.''

Funeral arrangements are pending. The No. 24 Bulldogs do not play this weekend.
