Mike Mularkey: Cam Newton's celebration violated 'code of ethics'

Sunday's fourth-quarter touchdown celebration by quarterback Cam Newton during Carolina's 27-10 win over Tennessee left the Titans angry during, and immediately after the game.

Monday was no different, with interim head coach Mike Mularkey continuing to elaborate on his displeasure.

Newton's lengthy dance after his score Sunday drew the immediate ire of Titans linebackers Avery Williamson and Wesley Woodyard, who let the quarterback know they didn't appreciate his theatrics. Mularkey followed up, criticizing Newton in his post-game press conference.

A day later, a still annoyed Mularkey said Newton crossed a line with his celebration.

"I know Avery was frustrated by it, but I think there was a whole lot of people frustrated by it," Mularkey said, per the Tennessean. "It's a little rubbing-it-in-your-face type of deal, which there's a little code of ethics in the NFL. (It's) not a good move.

"But I'm proud of (Williamson). I'm proud of what he did. He stood up for our team."

For his part, Newton said if the Titans weren't happy with his dancing, they shouldn't have allowed him to score.
