Mets Johan Santana has shoulder surgery

Published November 20, 2014

NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana had successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a shoulder injury that ended his season, but the team gave no timetable for when the three-time All-Star would return.

The Venezuela-born left-hander, who has not pitched since leaving midway through a September 2 start, had surgery to repair a tear in his left shoulder, according to a report posted on the team's website (http://newyork.mets.mlb.com).

Mets officials said last week they hoped Santana would be ready to throw during spring training.

Santana went 11-9 this season before the injury.
