Sochi, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - American defenseman Paul Martin will sit out Friday's men's hockey semifinal against Canada because of an illness.

Martin, one of the key U.S. blueliners, has not recorded a point but has a plus-2 rating in four games during the Olympics.

Justin Faulk, who has yet to play in Sochi, will take the open spot in the lineup, although John Carlson is expected to play alongside Martin's defense partner Brooks Orpik.
