Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Red Bull New York has tabbed Jesse Marsch as the club's new head coach on the same day the team fired former boss Mike Petke.

Marsch coached the expansion Montreal Impact to 12 wins in the club's inaugural season in 2012, the most wins for an expansion franchise in MLS since 1998.

The 41-year-old Marsch also served as an assistant to United States national team head coach Bob Bradley during the 2010 World Cup and 2011 Gold Cup.

"On behalf of the New York Red Bulls, I'd like to welcome Jesse aboard as our new head coach," said sporting director Ali Curtis. "We're excited to bring someone on who has both MLS and US Men's national team coaching experience and we strongly believe he is the right candidate to lead our team going forward."

During his 14-year playing career, Marsch won three MLS Cups and four U.S. Open Cups while featuring for D.C. United, Chicago Fire and Chivas USA, while he also earned two caps for the U.S. national team.

"I'm honored to be joining a franchise like the New York Red Bulls and I want to thank the organization for this opportunity," said Marsch. "I'm excited to get going with our players and sporting staff as we prepare for the 2015 season."

New York captured the Supporters' Shield in 2013 under Petke, and the club reached the Eastern Conference final last term after finishing fourth in the East during the regular season.
