Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Marquette has named Carolyn Kieger its new women's basketball coach.

Kieger played at Marquette and was a three-year captain, finishing her career as the Golden Eagles' all-time assists leader. She spent the past six years as an assistant at Miami-Florida.

"Carolyn is a dynamic person, both on and off the court, who has been able to transition her fierce competitiveness and striving for excellence as a player to a successful coaching career," said interim athletic director Bill Cords. "She has been able to instill those qualities into the players she has coached."

Marquette needed a replacement for Terri Mitchell, who was not retained after 18 seasons at the helm.
