ST. LOUIS (AP) Miami right-hander David Phelps left Sunday's game at St. Louis in the bottom of the third inning with right elbow discomfort and will be day to day, according to the Marlins.

Phelps, who entered the game with a 4-8 mark and a 4.35 ERA, gave up two home runs to Jason Heyward. After the second homer, he delivered one pitch to Randal Grichuk and then signaled for the trainer to come to the mound.

Left-hander Chris Narveson replaced Phelps, who gave up three runs on four hits in 2 1-3 innings.

Phelps grew up in the St. Louis suburb of Hazelwood.
